Nudera was driving through Elgin around midnight Sunday when he suffered a “heart-related event” and crashed his vehicle.

A man died Sunday after suffering a heart-related event while driving and crashing his vehicle in Elgin.

Laddie Nudera, 63, was driving through the city around midnight Sunday when he suffered a “heart-related event,” lost consciousness and crashed his vehicle into a utility pole near McLean Boulevard and Weatherstone Lane, the Kane County coroner’s office and Elgin police said.

After crashing into the pole, his car struck another vehicle, police said.

Nudera was taken to Sherman Hospital and pronounced dead about 12:30 a.m., the coroner’s office said.

The driver of the other vehicle was treated for minor injuries and released from a hospital, police said. No citations were issued.
