Police are warning residents to be aware of their surroundings following a pair of robberies in West Garfield Park on the West Side.

In each incident, one or two males approach the victims near an alley while another person waits in a black vehicle, Chicago police said. The robbers flash a gun and demand property, taking cell phones and wallets.

The incidents occurred about 8:55 p.m. May 29 in the 4300 block of West North Avenue and about 1:50 p.m. May 31 in the 1700 block of North Kildare Avenue, police said.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
