A ruptured gas line that prompted home evacuations and a temporary soft lockdown Thursday in Burnside has been secured.
Construction workers hit a high-pressure gas main about 8:30 a.m. in the 600 block of East 91st Place, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt.
Peoples Gas crews responded to the scene and the leak was stopped by about 10:45 a.m., according to fire officials. No injuries were reported.
Some nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution and children at a nearby Burnside Scholastic Academy, 650 E. 91st Place, were temporarily told to shelter in place while crews worked to stop the leak, the fire department said.
The level 2 hazmat 645 east 91 place has been secured. Leak stopped with no injuries. Companies hydrating and returning.
