Two Chicago police officers were injured early Saturday when they swerved to avoid colliding with a van and crashed into a McKinley Park home on the Southwest Side.

About 12:45 a.m., the officers were responding to a call with their lights and sirens activated in the 3300 block of South Ashland Avenue when someone in a gray Chevrolet Astro Van traveling north on Ashland turned in front of the officers to get onto 33rd Street, Chicago police said.

The officer driving the marked police cruiser swerved to avoid hitting the van and drove into the front stairs of the home, police said.

One officer reported lower back, head and neck pain, while the other suffered a laceration to his hand, police said. Both taken to a hospital for treatment, but were expected to make a full recovery.

No one inside the home was injured, police said. The van continued driving west on 33rd Street and has not been located.
