Vince Oppedisano picked the right time to fish the Chicago River.

“Braved the cold on the Riverwalk [Friday] night and caught a handful on jigs and minnows, including one of the biggest crappies I can remember catching,” he emailed.

The beautiful crappie was presented in a classic Chicago night scene. (Classic in my view.)

“I really got into fishing the Chicagoland area this year and have been trying a lot of new waters and techniques for different species,” he noted, echoing the expanded fishing of many in 2020.

FOTW, the celebration of big fish and their stories (the stories matter, as this one shows) around Chicago fishing, runs Wednesdays in the paper Sun-Times. The online posting here at https://chicago.suntimes.com/outdoors goes up at varied days of the week, depending on what is going on the wide world of the outdoors.
