A Waukegan woman in her 80s died in a crash Saturday in the north suburb.

She was northbound in an SUV about 6 p.m. on Lewis and Laurel avenues when she crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a Chevrolet, Waukegan police said in a statement.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The other driver, a Waukegan woman in her 40s, was released without transport to a hospital.

Authorities have not released the identity of the woman, and an autopsy is scheduled for later Monday.
