PHOTOS: Helicopter shows tornado’s destruction in Rogers Park

A Chicago Police Department helicopter captured the damage done by a tornado that touched down Monday in Rogers Park.

The aerial photos, taken Tuesday morning, show multiple trees blown down and many large branches broken off and strewn across sidewalks and lawns. A roof also appears to be badly damaged.

The National Weather Service confirmed Tuesday that a tornado touched down on the North Side around 4 p.m. Monday. It was about 300 yards wide with peak wind speeds of 110 miles per hour.

A map of the tornado’s path shows its 3-mile path stretch from near Touhy and Crawford avenues in Lincolnwood to Rogers Park and into Lake Michigan, where the weather service said it turned into a waterspout.
