Bears training camp digest, Day 5: LB Jon Bostic stands out

Here are some observations from Day 5 of Bears training camp at Olivet Nazarene University on Monday:

Bostic strikes back

Inside linebacker Jon Bostic returned to full practice in force on Monday, making consecutive standout plays.

Bostic cut through a gap on a run play and struck running back Ka’Deem Carey for what would have been a tackle-for-loss if the play could be finished.

On the next play, Bostic batted down a pass from backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen.

It was a big day for Bostic, who has been slowly phased into action at training camp. He’s been dealing with what he called shin, hip and back issues since the offseason, but he feels good now.

“I feel confident in my abilities once I get healthy,” Bostic said.

Other highlights

Gauging run plays can be difficult at camp because tackling is limited, but there were two long runs that stood out for their obvious success.

On one play, running back Jacquizz Rodgers had a gaping hole on the left side, which he burst through for a long gain into the secondary.

Later, right guard Kyle Long and right tackle Jordan Mills cleared a cutback opening for Matt Forte, who raced toward the end zone nearly untouched.

>> Cornerback Kyle Fuller had the best pass breakup of the day, preventing a completion to tight end Martellus Bennett in the end zone.

Bennett grabbed a pass over Fuller and outside linebacker Jared Allen, who nearly tipped it. From his back, Fuller knocked the ball loose from Bennett, who proceeded to do pushups.
