The Sun-Times’ experts offer their picks for the Bears’ home game against the Chargers:
RICK MORRISSEY
Chargers 20-13
The Chargers are reeling from a loss to the Titans that should have been a victory. They have lost three in a row. And Sunday’s game is at Soldier Field. I know all these things. But I also know what I saw from the Bears in their debacle against the Saints. It’s all I need to know. Season: 3-3.
RICK TELANDER
Bears 22-21
I can’t fathom two straight Bears home losses in the meat of the season, to a pair of teams with their own issues — Drew Brees was out for the Saints; the staggering Chargers are now 2-5—but it could happen. It better not. For oh so many reasons . Season: 4-2.
PATRICK FINLEY
Chargers 20-17 (OT)
In 2017, the Chargers moved from my hometown to go play in front of other teams’ fans at a soccer stadium in Carson, Calif. I only recently stopped hoping for their team bus to get a flat tire every game day. I don’t want to pick them. But still, I just can’t trust the Bears here. Season: 3-3.
MARK POTASH
Bears 23-21
Every game is a potential disaster for the Bears at this point, but Mitch Trubisky figures to be at least a little sharper in his second game back from injury and that could be enough to pull this one out. Season: 3-3.
JASON LIESER
Bears 15-13
The last two weeks have been brutal for the Bears’ defense, but there’s too much talent on that side of the ball to bet against them. They’ll get back on track and provide the offense enough of an opportunity to fight through its issues. The struggling Chargers are below average against the run, giving Matt Nagy the perfect chance to show he’s willing to commit. Everything about this game sets up well for the Bears. Season: 3-3.
