Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made plenty of nice plays in their 26-3 thumping of the Bears on Sunday, but one drew more attention than the rest.

After a second-quarter touchdown pass to Travis Kelce, Mahomes ran to his sideline counting to 10 on his fingers. It was an obvious gesture toward him going No. 10 in the 2017 NFL Draft, when the Bears took Mitch Trubisky second.

Here’s what he said about it after the game:

Why did he do it?

“I was just out there having fun. I was just trying to enjoy it. I play with emotion. I like to go out there and have fun with my teammates.”

Was it in your mind leading up to the game?

“No, not at all. I don’t think about celebrations and stuff like that. I just go out there and enjoy the moment. That’s who I am. I play with a lot of passion and I like to go out there and just be out there with those guys.”

What did you mean by it?

“I don’t know if there was necessarily a meaning. I was just kinda in the moment and just enjoying it. We had a big score there. I knew it was a big moment in the game.”

Of all places, why do it here?

“I don’t know why a lot of things come out when I do celebrations, but I just try to go out there and enjoy it. And I know I can’t dance or anything like that, so I leave that to the receivers. I just do what I can do.”

Does it still bother you that Trubisky went ahead of you?

“Anyone that goes about it as a competitor wants to be the first guy, but you know that there’s a process to it. Not everyone’s gonna be picked first. I ended up in a great situation in Kansas City, a situation where I wanted to be and an organization that took me and made me the best player that I could be at this time. I’m just excited that I’m here now.”
