A man wearing an employee’s uniform robbed a Jewel-Osco Thursday on the Near West Side.

About 5:25 a.m., the man walked into a store in the 1200 block of South Ashland Avenue as it was opening for the day, Chicago police said. A Jewel-Osco store is located at 1220 S. Ashland.

Armed with a gun, the man stole money from the safe and ran away without injuring anyone, police said. The man, who is in his 20s, fled southbound on Ashland.

It was not immediately clear whether he was an employee of the store or had obtained the uniform by other means, police said.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives review surveillance video from the scene.
