After just two minor-league games, which included a home run Sunday, recently signed slugger Carlos Gonzalez has been selected from Class AAA Iowa by the Cubs. He’s set to bat fifth in the lineup Monday when the team hosts the Angels.

Outfielder Jim Adduci was designated for assignment to make room on the roster.

Gonzalez, 33, is a three-time All-Star who is expected to be used in a platoon role and off the bench. The left-handed hitter has an .899 career OPS verses right-handed pitchers.

The longtime Colorado Rockie signed this season with the Cleveland Indians, who recently released him. Because he cleared waivers before the Cubs signed him, they are on the hook for only the pro-rated major-league minimum salary.
