Academy Award winner Chris Cooper is set to play J. D. Salinger in the feature film “Coming Through the Rye,” written by Emmy winner Jim Sadwith (“Sinatra”), who is making his feature film directing debut with the movie.

The film is set in 1969 and, like Salinger’s iconic “The Catcher in the Rye,” is also a coming-of-age story. Two teens, played by Alex Wolff (“Hair Brained,” “A Birder’s Guide to Everything”) and Stefania Owen (“The Carrie Diaries,” “The Lovely Bones”) search for Salinger, as did Sadwith himself, who had encounters with the reclusive author.
