Those of a certain age — especially folks addicted to vintage TV shows — will remember a young Patty Duke playing “identical cousins” back in the 1960s on “The Patty Duke Show.” Now the 67-year-old actress will guest star on an upcoming episode on “Liv and Maddie,” which is about twin sisters played by Dove Cameron. Duke will be playing a pair of grandmothers on the Disney Channel program.

Nothing her own grandchildren are fans of “Liv and Maddie,” Duke told the Associated Press, “I won’t lie. When [the show] came on the air, there was a part of me that said, ‘I want to do that!’ ”

The new series was inspired by Duke’s namesake show, and Cameron said she studied all three seasons of the vintage sitcom to use as a model for her own portrayal of twins.

The “Liv and Maddie” episode with Duke will air next year.
