Odenigbo to waive red shirt, fill in for injured Gibson

Fitzgerald said everybody except defensive end Deonte Gibson, who injured his elbow, would be available to play against Vanderbilt in Saturday night’s home opener at Ryan Field. True freshman Ifeadi Odenigbo, the four-star recruit and high school all-American, will surrender his redshirt season and take Gibson’s spot in the defensive line rotation.Fitzgerald said he hopes Gibson can return for the Boston College game on Sept. 15.“We’ve got eight guys in the rotation and now there’s a hole there so we have to fill that hole,” Fitzgerald said. “We’re always going to play our best 11 players.”
