Stephen Colbert’s “The Colbert Report” returned from a summer respite with a big old slap for Chicago.

Colbert discussed the atrocities in Syria, commenting that the outrage over Assad’s killings — including of children– was over the use chemical weapons.

“Before he was just using bullets,” Colbert said of the Assad regime. “But if America cared about shooting people, we’d be invading Chicago.”

Ouch.

Never a good sign when a comic segues from Syria atrocities to Chicago crime. Of course, it’s a double slap against President Obama, whose hometown is Chicago.
