Executives from two Illinois companies will accompany U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, a Chicagoan, on her first trade mission.

Schaumburg-based telecommunications company Motorola Solutions and Downers Grove-based software firm Medstrat will be among 17 companies taking part in the trip to Mexico in early February.

Pritzker says the mission is part of her job to connect U.S. businesses with potential customers across the globe. Pritzker’s office notes Mexico is the United States’ second-largest export market and third-largest trading partner. More than $1.25 billion in goods and services are traded between the countries every day.

The delegation will go to Mexico City and Monterrey.

Pritzker also says she plans a mission to the Middle East in the spring.
