(ELK GROVE VILLAGE) Overnight closures of I-290 will continue through Wednesday as crews install beams along an expressway flyover ramp being built in the northwest suburbs.
The closures were extended after weather cancellations over the weekend and into Monday hampered construction, according to the Illinois Tollway.
Starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, the closures will affect both directions of Route 390 and the eastbound lanes of I-290 in Elk Grove Village, officials said.
One eastbound lane of I-290 between Biesterfield Road and Route 390, and one westbound lane between Irving Park Road and Route 390 are scheduled to close to prepare for beam installation over the eastbound side of the roadway, according to the tollway.
At 9 p.m., a second lane will close in each direction, and two hours later a third will close. All eastbound lanes will be closed at midnight, according to the tollway. All lanes in both directions on Route 390 between Meacham Road and Prospect Avenue will close at midnight.
The work is expected to be completed by 5 a.m. Wednesday.
