(SCHILLER PARK) Southbound lanes of the Tri-State Tollway are closed during the Monday afternoon rush, after a power line fell across the roadway near northwest suburban Schiller Park.

About 3:05 p.m., some sort of mechanical problem caused the overhead power line to fall onto I-294 just north of Irving Park Road, Illinois State Police said.

The power line has since been removed from the northbound lanes, police said. However, the line is hanging low over the southbound lanes, and all traffic is being diverted off the roadway, then back on.

ComEd crews are currently at the scene, but authorities could not immediately say when the southbound lanes might reopen.
