13 hurt when bus hits pole on South Side

Thirteen people were injured when a CTA bus hit a pole in West Englewood Friday morning.

The bus hit a “fixed object” at 8:51 a.m. in the 7200 block of South Ashland, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase said the bus was headed south on Ashland when it crashed into a pole.

Thirteen people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries after the crash, Zala said. Three were taken to Holy Cross Hospital, four were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Center and six others were taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center.

The CTA initially reported that 22 people had been injured in the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Chase said.
