(SUGAR GROVE) A woman with serious injuries was among two people injured Friday morning when a garbage truck and an SUV collided near west suburban Sugar Grove.

A 2006 Chevrolet Uplander traveling eastbound on Route 30 crashed into the westbound Waste Management garbage truck about 7:30 a.m. near Dugan Road, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s office.

The SUV began to drift into westbound lanes and, while trying to avoid a crash, the garbage truck moved into eastbound lanes, police said. The two vehicles then collided in the eastbound lane of traffic.

The 44-year-old woman driving the SUV was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in serious condition, police said.

The 59-year-old man driving the garbage truck was taken to Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora with minor injuries, police said. Both the man and the woman were the only occupants of their respective vehicles.

Route 30 was closed between Dugan and Dauberman roads for about three hours while authorities investigated, police said. No citations or charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
