The Cortland Street Bridge over the North Branch of the Chicago River will be closed for about six months for repairs starting Monday.

Cars will be detoured via Webster Avenue and trucks via North Avenue, but at least one sidewalk will remain open to pedestrian traffic during the work, according to a statement from the Chicago Department of Transportation.

The bridge — a historical landmark built in 1902 — will be open to bicycle traffic, with riders directed to walk their bikes on the sidewalk, officials said.

The project to repair the roadway, floor beams and sidewalks is slated to be complete by November. Once that work is done, the bridge will be completely rehabilitated in 2018, officials said.
