One person was seriously injured in a crash early Wednesday on the Veterans Memorial Tollway in west suburban Lombard.

A car headed southbound on Interstate 355 just south of North Avenue rear-ended a semi at 2:22 a.m., according to a statement from Illinois State Police. The driver then lost control of the car, which rolled over onto the grassy area off the right shoulder.

The driver suffered a head injury and was trapped inside the car after the crash, state police said. The driver was removed from the car and taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in serious condition.

The center and right lanes were blocked as of 4:30 a.m., according to state police.
