Woman killed in Chatham crash

A woman was killed in a crash in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side Monday morning.

Ruth Loggins, 59, was driving in the 8600 block of South Michigan about 9:45 a.m. Monday when she “suffered a medical event” and crashed her vehicle into a parked car, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

She was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

According to an autopsy performed Tuesday, Loggins, of the 8800 block of South Michigan, died of thoracic blunt force injuries in the crash. The medical examiner’s office also listed scoliosis and hypertension as secondary causes of death.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
