An 18-year-old woman who was found dead with a gunshot wound in her Lansing apartment Sunday committed suicide, an autopsy has found.

Summer Mitchell, 18, was found unresponsive with a single gunshot wound to the chest by officers responding to a call of a medical emergency in the 17700 block of Commercial Avenue at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and Lansing police.

Mitchell was pronounced dead at 5:27 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Monday did not initially rule on cause and manner of death, but the medical examiner’s office said Friday that Mitchell died of a gunshot wound to the torso and her death was ruled a suicide.
