A 50-year-old man was severely injured in a crash early Sunday in west suburban Malta.

A DeKalb County sheriff’s deputy on patrol saw the gray 2008 Saturn four-door crashed in the front yard of a home in the 100 block of South 2nd Street in Malta about 3:45 a.m., according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

The investigation found the Saturn was southbound on 2nd Street when the driver lost control and struck a tree, according to the statement.

The driver, a 59-year-old DeKalb man, was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital with “severe injuries,” according to the sheriff’s office. He was then transferred to St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford.

Alcohol and speeding appear to be factors in the crash, and charges are pending against the driver, according to the statement. The crash remains under investigation.
