A 53-year-old north suburban man was killed in a snowmobile accident Sunday on Lake Geneva in Wisconsin.

Mark G. Reninger and another man, also in his 50s, were on snowmobiles and heading west on Lake Geneva toward Fontana when they encountered open water just north of Williams Bay, according to a statement from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Officials responded to the lake about 9 p.m.

Reninger, of Wheeling, was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to the statement. The other snowmobiler was treated for hypothermia.

The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the accident.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
