A man is in critical condition Sunday after he fell into Diversey Harbor on the North Side, hitting his head in the process.

The 28-year-old fell about 8 p.m. and hit his head on the concrete steps in the 2600 block of North Cannon Drive, Chicago police and fire officials said.

The man rolled into the water at Diversey Harbor and had to be rescued by nearby witnesses, officials said. Paramedics arrived and took the man to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
