Pilot killed in plane crash in McHenry County

The single-engine plane crashed near Galt Airport in Wonder Lake, officials said.

Galt Airport in Wonder Lake. — Galt Airport in Wonder Lake. McHenry County authorities say two people died in a small plane crash near this airport Friday.

A small plane crash left a pilot dead Friday evening near Galt Airport in Wonder Lake, about 60 miles northwest of Chicago.

The single-engine plane aircraft went down into trees east of the airport about 5:40 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Only the pilot was aboard.

Claude Sonday, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
