A small plane crash left a pilot dead Friday evening near Galt Airport in Wonder Lake, about 60 miles northwest of Chicago.

The single-engine plane aircraft went down into trees east of the airport about 5:40 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Only the pilot was aboard.

Claude Sonday, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
