A woman was killed and two people were wounded, including a 4-year-old boy, in a shooting Friday evening in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The shooting happened at 5:19 p.m. in the 5200 block of West Kamerling, police said. The circumstances were unknown.

Nikia Betts, 28, was shot in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she died at 5:54 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She lived in the neighborhood.

The boy and a 19-year-old man were both shot in the arm, police said. They were taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

No one was in custody Saturday morning as Area North detectives investigated.
