An Aurora man was killed when he was thrown from a motorcycle in a crash Thursday afternoon in the west suburb.

Jonathan J. Benavides, 30, was driving a 2012 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle at a high speed about 1:20 p.m., heading south on Eola Road from McCoy Drive, when he lost control while changing lanes, according to Aurora police. The motorcycle hit a curb and Benavides was thrown from the bike and hit a tree.

He was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead, police said. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash remained under investigation by the Aurora Police Traffic Division Friday morning.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
