A man was shot to death Wednesday night in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side.

Aaron M. Smith, 36, was standing on the street at 11:10 p.m. in the 7400 block of South Chappel when he heard shots and realized he’d been struck, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Smith suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and groin, and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:56 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 7400 block of South Shore Drive.

An autopsy Friday found the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds. His death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
