A south suburban man was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Summit on Friday morning.

Russell G. Pine, 64, was hit by a train at the Summit Amtrak station near West Hanover Street and South Center Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Pine, of the 11600 block of South Sacramento Street in Merrionette Park, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:06 a.m., authorities said.

An autopsy on Saturday found he died of multiple injuries and his death was ruled an accident.

According to a statement from an Amtrak spokeswoman, Pine was a passenger, but all other questions were referred to Summit police. They could not immediately be reached for more information.
