Peter King: Ted Cruz is 'one big self-inflicted wound'

SHARE Peter King: Ted Cruz is 'one big self-inflicted wound'

A day after the White House said Sen. Ted Cruz’s ‘shenanigans’ on Friday helped confirm nominees, Rep. Peter King, R-New York, went after the Texas Republican, saying he’s “one big self-inflicted wound” and “the Democrats’ best friend.”

In a move to protest Obama’s immigration action, Cruz objected to an attempt by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, to attempt an evening vote on the $1.1 trillion spending package after it passed the House. Reid’s response was to move forward with two dozen judicial and executive nominees, starting the clock on votes that may have otherwise been abandoned during the lame-duck session.

King openly voiced his displeasure with Cruz while on Long Island News Radio.

“Well, Ted Cruz is the Democrats’ best friend,” said King. “You know, last year with the government shutdown, that brought the Republican ratings as low as they ever were, there was no end game in sight at all. It was a publicity stunt by him, and too many Republicans fell for it.”

Previously, King has blamed Cruz for the 2013 government shutdown.

“It didn’t work this year — he tried to get the House to go do the same thing this year; they wouldn’t,” King said. “They learned their lesson last year. But he then tried to delay the Senate, and in his delay to force a vote to put people on the spot, he thought, on immigration — which served no purpose — it enabled the Democrats to get through a lot of nominees that Republicans could have blocked. So, as usual, he’s like one big self-inflicted wound.”A day after the White House said Sen. Ted Cruz’s ‘shenanigans’ on Friday helped confirm nominees, Rep.
