White Sox stand pat as trade deadline passes

The White Sox ended up being neither buyers nor sellers as the trade deadline passed Friday afternoon.

With a 16-9 record in July that includes a seven-game winning streak and two four-game win streaks, the Sox will ride out the 2015 season with what they’ve got.

At 49-51, the Sox will have a great deal of work to do in the final two months to grab a playoff spot. They’re only 3.5 games out of a wild card berth but have to leapfrog five teams to get there. The Sox have the third-worst run differential at -52, ahead of only the Red Sox and Mariners.

Jeff Samardzija had been rumored to be on the trade block for the last several weeks but didn’t end up being dealt after the Sox won seven in a row in the week leading up to the deadline.

The Sox were rumored to be heavily involved in a deal with the Tigers for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, but Detroit ended up sending him to the Mets instead.

More to come.
