Right-hander Ryan Burr was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday (retroactive to May 25) with a right elbow capsule strain, and recalled righty José Ruiz from Class AAA Charlotte to take his place on the 25-man roster.
Burr will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
“I think it’s his forearm,” manager Rick Renteria said.
Exactly one month ago, Burr landed on the 10-day IL with AC joint inflammation in his right shoulder.
Burr, who turned 25 Tuesday, has a 4.58 ERA with 20 strikeouts over 19‰ innings in 16 relief appearances. Ruiz, a converted catcher, has a 5.11 ERA and nine strikeouts in 13 relief appearances over two stints with the Sox this season.
Burr had strung together five consecutive appearances without allowing an earned run before giving up two against the Twins on Friday.
Anderson remains sidelined
Wearing a protective mitt, shortstop Tim Anderson pinch ran during the ninth inning of the suspended game Tuesday but
was out of the lineup for the fourth consecutive game with a sore
right wrist in the scheduled game.
Anderson also has a cut on his right hand, resulting from getting hit during a swing against the Twins on Friday. Renteria has said each day since Anderson was scratched from the lineup Saturday that Anderson is “better” but hasn’t been good enough to swing a bat.
Leury Garcia pinch ran in the suspended game and started in center field after missing two games with a sore right lat.
This and that
The Sox starting infield of Jose Abreu, Yolmer Sanchez, Anderson and Yoan Moncada, catcher James McCann, designated hitter Yonder Alonso and outfielders Eloy Jimenez, Garcia and Ryan Cordell are on the All-Star ballot released Tuesday.
† McCann had a full day, catching the remainder of the suspended game and Lucas Giolito’s start Tuesday night. McCann had three hits in the suspended game and scored the winning run after roping a double to right field in the ninth inning of the suspended game.
† Right-hander Carson Fulmer was called up from Charlotte for the scheduled game as the 26th man.
