The recognition is regarded as “the best of the best” when it comes to travel.

And this year, that “best” includes Virgin Hotels Chicago, which has been recognized as the top hotel in the U.S. by the readers of Conde Nast Travel. In addition, the tony Loop hotel (203 N. Wabash) was named the sixth best in the world.

The hotel was praised for “outstanding service, generous amenities, comfortable rooms and delicious food at Miss Ricky’s, the hotel’s modern diner helmed by chef de cuisine Rebecca LaMalfa.”

Thompson Hotel Chicago (21 E. Bellvue Place) took the No. 2 spot in the “best U.S. hotels” list.

Chicago’s Wicker Park was selected as the third best shopping city in the U.S., behind Dubai (No. 2) and New York (No. 1).

More than 300,000 readers cast their votes for this year’s “best” categories which included hotels, cities, cruise ships and islands.
