A person questioned in the fatal shooting of a teenage boy Thursday afternoon in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood has been released without charges.
Damarcus Williams, 16, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head at 1:22 p.m. in the 6100 block of South Evans, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Williams lived nearby in the 6100 block of South Cottage Grove.
Police initially said the boy might have accidentally shot himself but later reclassified the death as a homicide. An autopsy Friday made the same ruling.
Area Central detectives were questioning a “person of interest” in the killing Thursday night, but that person has since been released without charges, police said Saturday afternoon.
The investigation is ongoing.
