A 28-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday afternoon in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.

Sammy McGowan was standing outside at 4:56 p.m. in the 6500 block of South University when a white SUV pulled up and two armed males got out and fired shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The suspects then jumped back into the vehicle, which sped away northbound on University.

McGowan suffered one gunshot wound to the neck and one gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. He lived in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
