A man was killed and at least 13 more people were wounded in shootings across the city on Thursday, according to Chicago Police.

Additionally, police officers shot and killed a man after he shot one of them in the leg in a South Loop park, police said. The officer is expected to recover.

The other fatal shooting happened about 9:15 p.m. in the Jackson Park Highland neighborhood on the South Side.

A 29-year-old man was walking in the 6700 block of South Chappel when someone walked up and shot him in the chest, police said.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the death.

The latest nonfatal attack happened about 10:15 p.m. in West Elsdon on the Southwest Side, where a 19-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were shot while walking in the 5400 block of South Kostner. A bullet grazed the woman’s right thigh, and the man was shot in both legs, police said. They took themselves to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, where their conditions were stabilized.

Five people were shot less than an hour earlier on an Austin neighborhood block that has seen four separate attacks in less than a week. About 9:30 p.m., the group was on a sidewalk in the first block of South Leamington when someone in a passing gray car opened fire, police said. A 23-year-old man shot in the ankle was taken to Stroger Hospital, along with a 23-year-old woman who was shot in the left foot. A 24-year-old man shot in both ankles and the forearm was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, as was a 22-year-old man with graze wounds to both knees. The fifth victim, a 20-year-old woman, took herself to Loretto Hospital with a graze to the right arm. All their conditions were stabilized, police said.

Twenty minutes earlier, a 22-year-old man was shot in the back while walking in the Oakland neighborhood’s 3600 block of South Cottage Grove about 9:10 p.m., police said. His condition was stabilized at Northwestern Memorial.

About 6:10 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the side in the 3900 block of South Rockwell in Brighton Park on the Southwest Side. His condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai, police said.

Thursday morning, officers responding to a call in the 1100 block of North Lockwood about 11:30 a.m. found a 28-year-old man lying in a parkway with multiple gunshot wounds in an Austin drive-by attack, police said. He was taken to Stroger in critical condition.

Early Thursday, someone in a black SUV shot a 19-year-old man in the thigh while he walked in the 7100 block of South King about 1:10 a.m. in the Park Manor neighborhood. His condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai, police said.

About 12:40 a.m., a 29-year-old man showed up at Community First Medical Center with a hand wound and told investigators he’d been shot in the 5300 block of West Oakdale in the Cragin neighborhood, police said. He was in good condition.

The day’s first shooting happened just after midnight in Englewood, where a 24-year-old man was shot in the neck while standing on a sidewalk in the 7300 block of South Morgan, police said. He was in critical condition at Stroger.

Another 13 people were shot in Chicago on Wednesday, following 11 on Tuesday.
