A driver who died after a van crashed into a tree and caught fire last week in west suburban Naperville has been identified as a northwest Indiana man.

The 2015 Dodge ProMaster van was southbound in the 1400 block of North Washington Street at 1:43 a.m. July 11 when it left the road, struck a tree and caught fire, according to Naperville police. Police officers and Naperville Fire Department crews who responded found the van engulfed in flames.

The fire was extinguished and the driver, identified as 33-year-old Abel Clay of Hammond, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the DuPage County coroner’s office.
