A middle school in north suburban Gurnee was briefly placed on a soft lockdown after a nearby crash Friday morning.

About 9:25 a.m., a car crashed into a pole in the 6000 block of Grand Avenue, according to Gurnee police. Responding officers saw two people run away from the car.

Officers took the two into custody shortly after the crash, police said.

The pursuit prompted the Woodland Intermediate School and Educational Support Center at 1115 Hunt Club Road, less than half a mile from the scene of the crash, to go on a soft lockdown for about 10 minutes, according to Joy Swoboda, Woodland superintendent of schools

The main entrance doors were locked and students were brought indoors and remained in their classrooms with doors locked, Swoboda said.
