An unidentified person was struck and killed by a train Saturday night in Hammond, Indiana.

The Lake County coroner’s office was called about 10:15 p.m. to Willow Court and Hohman Avenue, where a male was found dead on the train tracks.

Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda said a train hit a pedestrian at that location, but could not immediately provide additional details.

The male, whose age is unknown, was pronounced dead at 10:55 p.m. A preliminary report indicates that he died from blunt force trauma, but the coroner’s office did not rule on the manner of death.

The crash happened on Norfolk Southern tracks, but a spokesman for the company declined to provide additional information Monday afternoon.
