A man died Saturday of injuries he suffered about nine days earlier when he stepped in front of a train on the South Side, authorities said.

The 38-year-old was struck on the tracks near Archer and Halsted about 11:45 p.m. July 14, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. It wasn’t clear what agency operates the train that hit him.

The man, a West Chesterfield neighborhood resident, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 3:56 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.

An autopsy Sunday ruled his death a suicide. Chicago Police did not immediately have more details.
