A man was charged after he accidentally fired a rifle in his apartment Saturday night, sending a bullet into his neighbor’s bedroom in DeKalb.

About 7 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the 1300 block of North Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb after a bullet hole was found in a tenant’s bedroom ceiling, according to a the DeKalb County sheriff’s office. The bullet entered the apartment through the ceiling and struck a wall.

Deputies discovered the bullet came through the floor of a neighbor’s apartment, police said.

About 12:30 a.m. Saturday, 23-year-old Guillermo Hernandez accidentally fired his AR-15 rifle into the floor, directly above his neighbor’s bedroom, the sheriff’s office said. The rifle was also fired in close proximity to Hernandez’s girlfriend, putting her at risk of being shot.

Hernandez was charged with reckless discharge of firearm, a felony, the sheriff’s office said.
