Police: Man who ran from traffic stop in Elgin had gun, bullets

An 18-year-old man who ran away from from police after being pulled over early Tuesday in northwest suburban Elgin had a handgun and bullets, according to police.

Officers conducted a traffic stop at Walnut Avenue and Wabash Street at 3:27 a.m., but the driver stepped out of the vehicle and ran away, according to a statement from Elgin police.

The driver, 18-year-old Jordan M. Walker, was taken into custody after a short chase in the 300 block of Gertrude Street, police said.

During a search, officers found several bullets on Walker, police said. A handgun and some cannabis were later found in the area.

Walker, of the 1200 block of Fleetwood Drive in Elgin, was charged with five felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon, one felony count of possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, and misdemeanor counts of possession of cannabis and obstructing a police officer, police said.
