A student was treated for shoulder pain after a school bus crashed Wednesday morning near southwest suburban Homer Glen.

At 10:57 a.m., authorities responded to a bus crash on Gougar Road just north of Shady Lane, according to a statement from the Will County sheriff’s office.

The driver of a First Student bus left Oak Prairie Junior High, 15161 Gougar Road, after picking up seventh and eighth grade students and was driving south when he took his eyes off the road, the sheriff’s office said. He swerved and hit a guard rail and drove about 30 feet into a wooded area. The driver and students were standing outside the bus when deputies arrived.

Four students complained of minor shoulder pain, and one was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, the sheriff’s office said. The other three students were treated at the scene and released. No citations were issued.
