Sometimes red is right for silver.

Len “Big Red’’ Kolak took Doug Leindecker fishing Saturday and he caught a Chinook weighing just under 21 pounds in 65 feet of water near Waukegan.

There may not be as many big kings as in the past, but a number of 20-pound-plus Chinook have been caught already this summer in Illinois waters of Lake Michigan.

FOTW, the celebration of big fish and good stories, runs Wednesdays on the Sun-Times outdoors page. The story part matters as much as the big fish part.
