(STREAMWOOD) A northwest suburban man is $1.3 million richer after hitting the Lucky Day Lotto jackpot.

Mrugesh Desai won the Sept. 19 drawing as his ticket matched all five numbers: 2, 7, 9, 23 and 38, according to a statement from the Illinois Lottery. Desai, of Streamwood, received his ceremonial check Thursday.

A lab assistant, Desai was scheduled to work the night shift the evening of the drawing, but before he headed off to work he used his cell phone to check his ticket.

“I was sitting in my car in the dark – and in shock,” Desai said.

The 50-year-old said he plans to share the windfall with his wife and two children.
