New Trier girls golf coach Scott Fricke fondly remembers the end of Lois Suh’s sophomore season.

Suh was part of the Trevians’ Class AA state championship team in 2012. Her 79 was tied for the team’s third-best score. It helped New Trier shoot a 313 and beat Prospect by four strokes.

“Coming into that season, she probably was our No. 5 player,” Fricke said. “But her 79 was a score we needed to win the state title.”

Suh — the only four-year varsity golfer on the 2014 team — once again was a big part of New Trier winning a state trophy last weekend. The Trevians took third place (322-331—653), finishing four strokes behind runner-up Loyola, and Suh’s 82 and 86 counted in both of the rounds.

“She’s been a staple in the lineup for us this year,” Fricke said. “She’s someone we always could count on at the state tournament.”

Fricke said the team had nicknamed Suh “Miss October.”

“She’s not someone who plays a lot of tournament golf in the summer, so it takes her time to get going,” Fricke said of Suh, who helped the Trevians place second as a freshman in 2011. “The longer she plays, the better she gets.”

Loyola

For the second season in a row, the Ramblers were the runners-up at the Class AA state tournament.

Last year, Loyola did it with three seniors in the lineup. This year, coach Jim Jackimiec didn’t have any.

Led by junior Blake Yaccino, the Ramblers shot 330-319—649 to finish 15 strokes behind Hinsdale Central. Yaccino tied for eighth after shooting 80-75 for an 11-over 155.

Nina Rutkowski, the only freshman in the team’s top six, followed Yaccino with rounds of 78-79 to tie for 13th. Sophomore Margaret Hickey (86-79) and junior Nicole Wetoska (89-86) rounded out the team’s top four for 36 holes.
